Press Briefing: Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe

As the European Commission is set to present its eagerly awaited anti-SLAPP initiative on Wednesday, 27 April, The Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) organises a press briefing to respond to the proposed measures, analyse its key components as well as potential impact on civil society. Green Legal Impact Germany e.V. is a member and supporter of CASE.

Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová will present the Commission proposals in a conversation with Matthew Caruana Galizia (Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation). Subsequently, Flutura Kusari (ECPMF), Linda Ravo (Civil Liberties Union For Europe), Sarah Clarke (ARTICLE 19) and Charlie Holt (Greenpeace International) will examine the measures against a model EU directive submitted by the CASE to the public consultations launched by the European Commission.

SLAPPs are abusive lawsuits that operate through the litigation process to silence critical speech, shut down accountability, and undermine democratic rights.

SLAPPs are on the rise across Europe with a report published by CASE last month finding a rising cumulative trend in SLAPPs since 2015.

Join the press briefing on Thursday, 28 April at 11:00 AM CET – either in person in Brussels or online. Find out more and register here.
