Strategic thinking for the protection of the environment and nature as well as the development of new ideas at the margins of existing law have hardly played a role in the education of young lawyers so far. Yet it is precisely the task of the next generation of lawyers to further develop the law in the direction of sustainability and greenhouse gas neutrality, as well as to ensure the preservation of freedoms for civil society engagement. In recent years, numerous lawsuits have been brought in Germany in the environmental field, primarily on climate issues, but also on air pollution control and in the mobility sector – in some cases with great success. However, this does not mean that the legal potential has been exhausted, nor does it mean that there is a need to use the law to advance solutions to problems in environmental, climate and nature protection.

In September 2021 GLI will hold its first Green Legal Lab.

In a newly conceived, very practice-oriented further training, up to 30 lawyers and legally experienced environmental activists will develop new strategies for legal action with experienced environmental lawyers and deepen approaches to existing possibilities for legal action.

The Lab will be held in German. Further information can be found on the German version of this website.
